The primary focus of this chapter is the quality of care and safety of the client as it relates to the administration of medications. The learner is introduced to legislative acts on a federal and state level that affect nursing. The emphasis then moves to client safety and the prevention of medication errors. The core ethical principles of nursing are discussed, and the learner is also introduced to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics. The chapter finishes with a discussion of nursing informatics and how it affects drug administration and error prevention.
